PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN SCHOOL DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION

LONGWOOD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, Middle Island, New York (January, 2006 – Present)

Director of Music & Fine Arts

Member of superintendent’s senior leadership team responsible for supervision and management of a K-12 fine & performing arts program that serves a mixed socio-economic school community of 9,000 students in seven buildings. Increased responsibility included supervision of secondary-level family & consumer science and driver education programs, and liaising with internal auditors on finances of student clubs. 

District received the New York State School Music Association's Award of Excellence for its outstanding music program [that is] seen as a model for music education programs in New York State in providing students with a well-rounded music program at all levels.

Proudly implemented Long Island's first school-based Harp curriculum. Several awards and high-profile performances occurred within first four years.

Accomplishments

District-wide music program recognized by the New York State School Music Association with the Award of Excellence (2022).

Gained approval from NYS Department of Education to offer the Individual Arts Assessment Pathway (IAAP) to graduation in Visual Arts.

Proudly implemented the first school-based Harp curriculum on Long Island (2021).

High School music program recognized by Long Island Music Hall of Fame (2019).

Led 2.5-year cross-curricular project producing Irving Berlin's Yip! Yip! Yaphank! written in 1918 within current district limits.

Elementary Music Program Excellence Award - Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) 2018, 2016

Music program Honored by Indianapolis, IN - based Music for All with inaugural Advocacy in Action Award (2023, 2018).

Successfully advocated for the 2015-16 return of district’s fourth grade music program after its loss during 2009 economic downturn. 

Updated and streamlined fine and performing arts curricula incorporating new New York State Learning Standards in the Arts.

Program recognized by Suffolk County Anti-Bias Task Force for promoting tolerance & inclusion through the Arts, 2014

Student art work selected as part of 2022, 2019, 2016 and 2014 U.S. Congressional Art Shows.

Community listed as “Best” for Music Education in America each year since 2008.

Led upgrade of state-of-the-art technologies in two auditoria; and for music and visual art curriculum enhancing learning, teaching & creativity.

Project Implementation and Leadership

Implemented the first school-based Harp curriculum on Long Island.

Led district through 2.5-year cross-curricular project of Irving Berlin’s 1918 production Yip, Yip, Yaphank! written within current school district boundaries.

Successfully advocated for the 2015-16 return of fourth grade beginning music program after losing it to 2010 economic downturn.

Spearheaded creation of Long Island Arts Alliance’s Scholar Artist program. Serve as Education Committee Chair.
